All New Hyundai Kona set for 2023 release.
The new Kona 2023 is expected to be released later this year. The release is not just a face lift but a new and bold futuristic design along the lines of the Staria and the Ioniq.
The most distinctive design change on the new Kona will be the LED light bar which has been dubbed the seamless Horizon Lamp. This light bar wraps the full width of the front and the rear to give it an unprecedented unique look. There won’t be mistaking this car for any other in a car park.
What we know so far
Engine
There are 2 confirmed engines being the existing petrol and full electric with a rumoured Hybrid engine to compete with competitors like the Honda Hr-V and the Nissan Qashqai. The existing 2.0 litre 4 cylinder will most likely carry over from the old model while the Kona N Line looks likely to inherit the 1.6 turbo from the 120 N and Tucson with power outputs of up to 146kw/265Nm sitting on an all new AWD setup.
THERE IS NO TALK OR RUMOUR OF ANY HEROIC KONA N BEING RELEASED SO THE CURRENT
MODEL KONA N 2.0 LITRE TURBO WILL MOST LIKELY BE THE LAST. FOR REV HEADS LOOKING
FOR A FUN SUV WE SUGGEST YOU LOOK INTO THE CURRENT KONA N BEFORE STOCKS SELL OUT.
Body Size
Hyundai’s small SUV will grow up slightly becoming 150mm longer and 25mm wider. This will allow for more legroom and headroom in the second row which will be a godsend for growing families and their friends
New Screens
The Kona is set to get a big screen update with not one but two 12.3 inch digitals screens joined to seamlessly blend together to
house the infotainment system and vehicle dash. It will get smarter running Hyundai’s ccOS operating system with NFC which
will allow secure connections to smartphones and smart watches. Imagine not having to carry keys around and being able to
open and start the car via your watch !
New Safety
Hyundai has been an innovator in vehicle safety and the new Kona will showcase many new systems which will hopefully become standard in the near future. New safety systems include Navigation based adaptive cruise control, lane following assist and highway driving assist while the autonomous emergency braking will now support junction turning and reverse detection.
Conclusion
The new Kona looks like a major improvement in all areas over the current model and those looking for an electric or hybrid upgrade should consider registering their interest in the new model. With a futuristic design both inside and out, it should appeal to people of all ages and the increase in interior space should put this car on the shopping list for most families.
Pricing is yet to be announced or confirmed by Hyundai and should hopefully be available within the coming weeks.
